A mule is a cross between a horse and a donkey. The horse has 64 and the donkey 62 chromosomes but the mule has an odd number i.e 63 chromosomes and hence all mules are sterile by birth. But recently kate a mule in colburn colorado gave birth to a mule foal. which is befuddling scientists. NPR has a podcast do listen to it to know more.
